The Art League of Baytown is pleased to partner with The Clay Arts Museum and Educational Organization (CAMEO) to present this Exhibit of Clay Art pieces and hand woven pieces from the private collections of Baytonians and Houstonians. Exhibited will be British, Mexican and American clay art, including Native American pieces. Also we will have Native American woven pieces, Southeast Asian and Central Amreican weavings and weavings from American textile artisans. The Opening will be Saturday, September 6th and during business hours, we will have weavers demonstrating on a loom as well as a demo on the spinning wheel. Potters will also demonstrate on the potters wheel. We will also have on exhibit CAMEO's fabulous clay teapot collection. CAMEO's intent with this particular series of exhibits is to educate the public about choosing art as a valid investment. All of the pieces on display are considerably more valuable than their initial cost. While these pieces on exhibit are not for sale, we will have handmade pottery and handwoven textiles available for sale, as well as the artwork of over thirty local art league artists. We hope you will keep this date on your calendar. You will be impressed with what the hand at work can do.
Next meeting is September 21, 2014 at 2:00 PM
Every 3rd Sunday, 2:00 PM
Demonstrator will be Mary Welch who will weave on the loom.
The Art League of Baytown has been a mainstay of this Community since 1954, maintaining it's 501(c)(3) status. Now that we have a home in the Art Center of Baytown, thanks mainly to the generous support of the City of Baytown, we are learning how much our neighbors are interested in experiencing art. This is not limited to just one age group or gender. Regardless of your skill level, budding artists in all age groups experience the joy of art - adults, children, special needs, etc.
We offer scholarships to graduating high school students and also for our students with intellectual disabilities who come on Tuesday nights for art class. We appreciate any donation for our current programs and future activities as we meet the demand of the public. As a 501.c.3 organization, your donation is completely tax deductible.
